Enlighten 2016

See Canberra’s many attractions and landmarks this March in a completely different light with Enlighten – MORE than just a light show… Now that’s a tagline if I’ve ever heard one.

Enlighten is like Canberra’s version of Vivid Sydney. It’s an after hours experience, that over the course of 10 nights, sees an electric canvas presented across six of Canberra’s most iconic buildings; Parliament House, Old Parliament House, National Library of Australia, Questacon, National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery of Australia.

From 8pm each night, these iconic buildings will come alive and will be transformed into illuminated, phosphorescent, mesmerizing works of art, that are inspired by the architecture of the individual buildings, as well as their unique art practices and themes.

The fun doesn’t stop at gazing at buildings coming alive with lights, colour and art. A big part of the celebration is indulging in the fantastic food and produce from around the area. From March 4 – 13, the Night Noodle Markets will be pumping out authentic Asian flavours, like dumplings, dosa, stir fry and gyozas. There’ll also be performances, art installations, live music and exhibitions to set the festival atmosphere… as well as plenty of other food stalls and flowing bars.

Whisky Business

Join the Questacon’s Q Lab as they delve into the science of whisky. Get ready to learn about… and taste whiskey… how good is science. This is a ticketed and adults-only event.

The Night Photography Workshop

Learn how to take your photography skills to the next level. Who here has struggled to take photos at night, when trying to capture the vibrancy of fireworks or the post dinner group shot? Yep, we have too.

Circle of Light

As searchlights stretch high up into the night sky, watch as this interactive sculpture works magic in the air. Even from afar, you’ll be able to see the cathedral of light be manipulated in the night sky.

Lights! Canberra! Action!

Film buffs – this one is for you. Enjoy films about Canberra under the stars, as this year’s top twelve films are showcased surrounding the theme of ‘Chance’. Set in the beautiful Senate Rose Gardens, this is a great, fun and FREE event.
